Cast iron fireplace choices

Monday, June 28th, 2010

Adding a living flame cast iron fireplace to a room can really add that ‘wow’ factor you might have been looking for. But with so many different designs available, how can you be sure what fireplace will work well in the room?

The size of your chimney breast

Perhaps the first thing to consider when choosing a cast iron fireplace is the size of the room in which it is going to be installed. The fireplace will be installed in your chimney breast, so it’s best to check the dimensions of this before you make your choice. Chimney breast dimensions can differ from home to home, so it’s always worth checking this before you buy a fireplace which is too large for the space you have.

Tiles or no tiles

This is purely down to personal preference, but the tiles in the fire can work well with the décor in your home if you choose appropriately. It’s worth noting that fireplaces that have tiles are usually wider that those that do not.

The cast iron fireplace finish

Not all cast iron fireplaces are finished with a matt black effect. On some, the detail can be of a high gloss polished effect and on others the whole fire can polished to provide a striking high gloss finish.

With so many different beautiful designs to choose from, we hope that these tips will be able to narrow down your options.

Derby Fireplace to be retired from our range

Tuesday, May 25th, 2010

A little bit of sad news as one of our old time favorite fireplaces is to be retired from the gallery range of fireplaces and stoves we offer.
We have sold the Derby Fireplace since its introduction into the Gallery range and the first year it was launched it won the Best Fireplace award at the Harrogate show.
It was originally sold in Both a Full Polished and Matt Black finish which was later changed to Black Leaded and the Full polished version dropped.
It has been a steady seller over the years in Black Lead since it was discontinued by gallery from the purple brochure and now it has come to the end.
We do have one left in stock at the price of £350 which is a real bargain as the price has shot up so much recently they would have needed to be sold at around £450 which is expensive when compared to our Pembroke Fireplace.
So Mr Derby Fireplace (or dirty derby as we know it being Forest fans) the time has come to bid you farewell it must be over 10 years this fireplace has been sold by me even when i was at Derwentside, funnily enough i enquired whether another one of my old favorites the Primrose was still available and as to how much they would be as i think we need to replace a cast of this size but retailing it at over £450 is just to much.
So anybody requiring the last Derby Fireplace available its here waiting in our showroom to find a new home and if your reading this article just click Derby Fireplace to view it.

New Coronet Highlighted Fireplace Revealed

Friday, May 14th, 2010

Here at Castfireplaces we are always listening to what our customers ask for and a few have said they would like a bigger choice in smaller limestones for small chimney breasts.
So listening to this we are currently having designed some 48″ limestones and a new arch to go with them.
Following on form the huge sucess of the Jubilee Highlighted insert we are having made a Coronet Highlighted insert which is smaller than the jubilee but will be polished in exactly the same way.
This new insert will be sold alongside our current very popular Black and Half polished Coronets all available with the same fantastic mantel choices.
Suitable for solid fuel, gas and electric use this arched insert is sure to be a big seller ane below is a photo straight from China showing the polished finish and how it looks.
The cast iron back and bars are from the half polished coronet so basically its just the different polishing details that makes it different so all our current gas fires and solid fuel kits will slot straight in withouht the need for designing new versions.
So feast your eyes on the new Fireplace and i can assure you this will be the first time anybody has seen this as it has only been emailed to me about an hour ago.

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

A nice simple question asked by a customer at 4pm today as to whether we have the particular black arched insert in stock and to see if he could pop over and collect it.
So a nice end to the day was a call again to The Factory to meet the couple who had travelled form Leics, payment taken item was quickly loaded up after viewing it in our showroom just to be sure it was the one they wanted and they were on their way.

Fireplace Shop near Coventry tells more fairytales

Sunday, April 11th, 2010

Hello back again from my delivery run to the Sunny south and again today it was nice and sunny. On my way home i delivered an Amsterdam Highlighted Fireplace for solid fuel use to a customer in Cannon Hill Coventry.
Whilst unloading the fireplace she started to tell me a little tale about the trouble she had with her local fireplace shop in ordeing this item.
First off he wanted her to order the Tulip Blue Ivory tiles which he had on display with this item and not the July Yellow tiles she wanted.
Anyway thats not the good part she ordered it from them and paid a deposit with him telling her it would take two weeks to come into stock.
Now we both order gallery fireplaces from the same company and our replacement for the stock item arrived to our suppliers last week a few days after we ordered it so there was no problem with delivery.
So eight weeks later still no fireplace she contacts said fireplace centre to find out when the Amsterdam is arriving to be told that they had been burgled and the Amsterdam has been broken in the burglary and that they cant order another for around 1 month etc.
Thinking on her feet she demanded a refund which was given promptly to be fair and after ordering it on our website last saturday i delivered it today.
Anyway the moral of the story is why lie to your customers there was no reason it could not be delivered the customer now thinks your going bankrupt as you have decreased showrooms from two to one and now can not supply fireplaces to people who want to pay you.
How strange is that you did all the difficult work but your loss is my gain thankyou very much and also our customer is very please saving over £150 and getting the item with no fuss

Crown Half Polish Fireplace to Isle of Wight

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

Last week we were asked if we can deliver to the Isle of Wight a Crown 40″ x 40″ cast iron arched fireplace complete with a granite hearth and an Electric Insert.
We do not delivery to the Isle of Wight its just to time consuming and expensive to travel by ferry there and as we dont sell many there its just not economical to do.
Anyway we do have a solution we have sent things before on pallets to Isle of Wight and have used a great shipping agent that will collect from us.
So we explained this to Mr Morgan and he has come back to us with his own collection and delivery company and asked us if we can wrap it up safe on a pallet for him.
So order placed and items are in stock now ready to be collected so tomorrow morning i will get wrapping and packing this up for collection.
I am becoming quite an expert at wrapping up items and the amount of bubble wrap we use on all our small items we send in the post has been commented on many timees
So if you live in the Isle of Wight, Man or any other island we dont deliver there by our own vehicles but can normally sort out a pallet delivery for you with the minimum of fuss

Replacement Firebricks for my Celtic Fireplace

Monday, March 15th, 2010

Today we have had a phonecall about the cast iron back firebrick in the celtic fireplace and why does it move up and down and do i have to seal it shut.
The idea is to have this little replacement brick as when the fireplace is being used for solid fuel use there is a little expansion and contraction but primarily this firebrick is where all the heat is contained and as these are proper working fireplaces the brick is designed to be replaced when it shows sign of wear and tear.
Now recently we have had one or two customers ring up saying that the replacement brick has bowed in towards the fire and it is really damaged.
This basically is though not backfilling the fireplace as the area behind the cast iron back needs to be packed tightly with vermiculite or rubble making sure that no air pockets are left.
Heats registered fitters will enusre this job is done properly and its normally DIY people we find who have not backfilled at all or done it wrong.
Its not the end of the world as the bricks are replaceable and cost £25.
So back to the original question leave the firebrick with its cast iron brackets that hold it in place and do not overtighten and make sure it moves up and down backfill the fireplace properly and all will be good for years to come.

Deeper Back For Solid Fuel Fireplaces

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

Hello again todays little article is about a product we are getting asked for more and more but it only fits a few of our Fireplaces.
Brand new in the 2010 purple brochure photographed with the Pembroke Black Fireplace is an item called Deeper Back For Solid fuel use.
Basically this is an extra back supplied by us to replace the standard back that comes with the fireplaces it fits. It has been designed to increase the area for burning solid fuel fot the following three Fireplaces

Pembroke
Henley
Jubilee

These three very popular fireplaces have the option of the deeper back which to be fair does increase the size quite a bit and are ideal for customers wanting to use solid fuel fire regurlarly.
The original cast back is removed and this deeper one bolted on replacing it, as it is not tapered as much it forms a squarer opening and also it gains 65mm depth wise too so you have more room to throw on some more coal or a log or two.
It adds £105 to the price of a fireplace package as we have to replace the solid fuel kit with one with a bigger grate and ashpan too.
The damper flap is the same size with the same design on it so if you you wish to use your fireplace for solid fuel regurlarly consider having one of theose three fireplaces and then we can offer you the Deeper back to go with it.
Will add photo next week of the items when i remember to take my camera to the Factory
