When using one of our fireplace packages for electric use a question we often get asked is as to whether they need to sit inside an opening on the chimney breast or whether they can be mounted on a flat wall.
With the arched fireplaces we supply they do need a recess or “chamber size opening” which is basically the opening in your chimney breast, this is because the arched and tiled fireplaces have a cast iron back on them ranging from 6″ to 12 ” deep depending on which fireplace you choose.
All this information relating to your chosen fireplace can be found on our dimensions tab which will give you diagrams and measurements.
We have had in the past two fireplaces returned because customers thought they could be used on a flat wall, im afriad this is not normally the case.
With our electric fireplace packages we do supply a damper flap that will close unlike many of our competiotors that just send out a gas damper that stops open, this damper will allow your chimney to closed off so you do not lose any heat through the opening and also will stop soot falling into your new fireplace.
I have included a picture of the electric fire we offer with our fireplace packages we do have them on display in our showroom in Langley Mill for anyone wanting to come and view

Wednesday, July 6th, 2011At castfireplaces with our modern fireplaces section we offer both gas and electric fires with these packages.
Over the past two weeks we seem to have sold more modern elctric fireplace packages than gas which is quite unusual.
The handy thing with the electric fireplace package is that it can be mounted on a flat wall where there is no chimney and as the gallery electric fire comes with a spacer there is no need to chop it into the wall.
This spacer does not always come with other electric fires so make sure if you purchase your electric fire elsewhere it can work on a flat wall.
So we have always kept an electric fire or two in stock to speed up the delivery process last week we had to have them sent directly from Gallery on a pallet to ensure our customers got them on the deliveries we had arranged.
Not ideal for us as we had to pay carriage charge but needless to say we have now ordered more into stock so it should not occur again.
Most of the electric fires we have sold have been wioth brushed steel trims and a mixture of Baltimore and Bauhuas Polished frets.
These two are by far our most popular and we now have stocks of those too, most people have them delivered as we do not keep many modern suites in stock due to the size of them but our fantastic suppliers have most of them in stock for there normal very quick delivery.

How to choose the right electric fireplace
Sunday, March 13th, 2011Virtually everybody loves fireplaces. However, many of us can’t have a conventional fireplace installed in our homes while some simply can’t be bothered with all the cleaning and maintenance they bring with them.
Fortunately, nowadays there is a viable alternative. Electric fireplaces aren’t the cheap-looking things of years gone by. The modern equivalents are stylish and offer realistic fire effects. They bring all of the ambience of a real fire with none of the hassle. But how do you choose the right one?
The first step would be to decide on a general style. You can get freestanding electric fireplaces or large, ornate affairs with real wood mantels as well as everything in between. Decide what kind of a look you want to bring to your room and also consider how much space you have. This will narrow down your options considerably.
You also need to decide where you want to position your electric fireplace. This might sound odd, in that fireplaces are almost always the focal point of the room and the intended location might seem obvious as a result. However, do give the matter some thought. You can even get corner fireplaces, so there are options. There may wiring considerations as well, don’t forget.
Electric fireplaces offer many benefits with few drawbacks
Saturday, December 4th, 2010We all love a roaring fire during the winter months, but we don’t all have fireplaces in our homes. There are several reasons for this.
Perhaps most significantly, since the advent of central heating, natural fires have been considered inefficient and untidy. Some people weigh up the advantages against that and decide to have one, while others don’t want to be faced with the hassle.
Another reason why people often don’t have a fireplace any more is that many modern homes simply don’t feature chimneys. Without one, you can’t have a natural fire.
Fortunately, there are solutions. Electric fireplaces offer a lot of the plus points of a natural fire, but with few of the drawbacks. There is no mess with an electric fire and nor do you need a chimney. Furthermore, modern flame effects can be very convincing giving the look of a natural fire as well as the heat.
Electric fires are economical and they also have the benefit that they can be better controlled than a real fire. You don’t need to build a fire and get it started with an electric fireplace, you just switch it on. You don’t need to wait for it to burn out either, you can simply switch it off when you’re finished with it.
Electric fireplaces offer many benefits and no drawbacks
Sunday, November 14th, 2010Fireplaces create a warm, inviting ambience, but what can you do if you want one but lack the necessary chimney? Fortunately for those of us who live in houses and flats such as this, we can now make use of electric fireplaces.
Electric fires are far removed from the functional heaters of yesteryear. Modern electric fires simulate a real fire, offering realistic, flickering flames only with none of the drawbacks. You don’t need a chimney, so you don’t have to get one cleaned and as these fires run on electricity, they don’t create the mess that a traditional fire would in the form of ashes and soot.
Modern electric fires can be acquired as inserts, to be fitted into an existing fireplace, or they can be bought as standalone versions. Either way, they look good enough to be the focal point of any room.
All you need for an electric fire is a power source and a suitable place to put it. Installation is straightforward and maintenance minimal. Furthermore, electric fires have the added benefit that they are more controllable than a roaring log fire. If it’s getting too hot, you can turn them down. If it’s feeling a little nippy, you can simply switch them on. You don’t need to go to all the trouble of building and starting a fire.
Advantages of modern electric fireplaces
Thursday, September 16th, 2010A lot of people are closed off to the possibility of purchasing an electric fireplace. In their minds, electric fires are still the ugly functional equipment of years gone by, but that is no longer the case. These days almost any conventional fireplace can be installed with an electric fire to give the same look to the room only with many additional advantages.
Firstly, electric fireplaces do not require a chimney. Also, unlike gas fireplaces, nor do they require a vent. This is a great plus point for many people as it means they do not need to make major renovations to their home, simply to have a fireplace put in.
Another great advantage is how easy they are to use. While it takes time and effort to build a traditional fire, all an electric fire needs is the push of a button. You can then switch off the fire when you don’t need it, which is not the case with a real fire.
Electric fireplaces are clean as they do not produce smoke or ash; they are easy to use; and they are affordable to run as well. With so many benefits allied to the same great looking fire surround, you can see why electric fireplaces are increasingly popular these days. It is with good reason.
Electric fires can have equally good fire surrounds
Monday, July 12th, 2010Electric fires are increasingly popular. Not so long ago, electric fires were disappointing and cheap-looking, but technology has moved on and the latest versions are well-designed and will often give the appearance of having real flames. On top of that is the benefit that of all the different fuel sources available, electric fires require the least maintenance. There is no mess, no clearing up and you don’t even need a chimney.
But what if you want a particular type of fire surround? Can you necessarily get it along with an electric fire? Of course you can. The vast majority of modern fire surrounds are suitable for solid fuel, gas or electric fires, meaning you can have the fireplace you want together with the fuel source you want.
With realistic flames, low maintenance and easy installation, you can see why electric fires are now such a common choice among homeowners. You get the warmth and style of a traditional fire and fireplace surround, but little of the hassle.
That said, for many people building and stoking a fire is half the point. Those people can also benefit from beautiful fire surrounds in limestone, marble, cast iron or wood, as can those with gas fires. Whatever type of fire you have, take a look online to find a fire surround to suit your home decor.
Can we use Electric Fireplace on Flat Wall
Monday, May 31st, 2010A simple questions was asked today on Bank Holiday monday and yes we are open as to whether a customer can use the Jubilee arched insert with the Brompton Limestone mantel on a flat wall and have the Electric insert thats goes with it.
I was sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the jubilee fireplace requires the wall to have a chamber recess of 6.5″.
This is to accomodate the cast iron back that comes with this fireplace, there is no way round it really, i did suggest building false chimney breast to house the back and she has gone to see her builder to see what can be done.
I know a lot of our customers do like the more tradtional fireplace design but theres not much choice of fuel options for a flat wall as i have said already the cast back does ne to be recessed into the fireplace chamber.
In our Modern Fireplaces section we do have quite a few fireplaces that can be used on flat wall situations and then have an electric fire to suit.
I appreciate the fact it does detract from a more Victorian fireplace look but for people not wishing to construct false chimney breasts it can certainly offer a focal fireplace for your room without the need for building work.
I Know JIG once did a combianation fireplace with electric insert built in to it but to be honest it looked terrible.
So for once we have not been able to offer much of a solution except for the false chimney breast idea so she has gone off to ponder her options, i have this sneaky feeling she will be back as she seems to have set her heart on the Jubilee Brompton Limestone Package
