Wooden fireplaces enjoy browsing the best range online
Saturday, June 20th, 2009Whats in our Stone Fireplaces Section
Friday, June 19th, 2009Stone Fireplace Packages is the most visited section on our website, this particular category is where we sell all our Fireplace packages with limestone or Jura stone surrounds with an array or arched and tiled inserts. This section seems to have grown enormously and now most of the popular fireplaces we sell have been photographed with 1 or more of our limestone surrounds creating what we believe to be the best range online.
The Limestone we supply is all 100% solid Natural Agean Limestone and is a white uniform colour with a little veining you will find some fossils in the limestone and sometimes slight colour variation but that is the beauty of a natural product that’s millions of years old. Every mantel is unique and all products are matched when machining to avoid colour change as much as possible (we have never has one returned yet in over 5 Years).
The packages we sell have been reduced in price when comparing to buying individual items to offer the discount package rate we have not compromised on any quality to do this and are the same items if you ordered them on there own we just do not supply inferior products to achieve price.
Click on the link above to take you to the section that is full of arched and tiled fireplaces with the largest range of stone surrounds or visit our Showrooms (appointment only) to see what we have on display and feel the product
I am sure you will not find Stone Packages cheaper in any shop with what ever fuel option you choose so have a look at one of our best selling stone suites below and treat yourself to a new Stone Fireplace Package.
Arched Insert Fireplaces Category
Wednesday, June 17th, 2009One of our most visited sections on our website is the Arched Inserts category. This is where we sell all the arched inserts on there own without surrounds hearths etc so you can buy just the insert to fit in your existing surround. All the arched inserts are available in a choice of finishes from Black to Highlighted and Half Polished to Full Polished each item states what finish that particular fireplace comes in. Most of them are a standard 37†to 39†and will fit any normal sized surround opening. We do offer the crown half polish in 40†wide for the largest of surround openings.
All the arched inserts can be used for the following options
Solid Fuel – Just add the solid fuel kit as an extra this consists of Grate, Damper flap and ash pan
Gas – Just select it on extras section to add this gas fire to your order available for Class 1 and Class 2 Chimneys
Electric – Again available as an option so you can use the arched insert with an electric fireplace ideal for use where you have no working chimney or just prefer this option.
The arched Fireplaces we offer are all different in styles from the Plain Crown and Jubilee insert to the more Decorative Henley and Radley.
Some are better for solid fuel use such as the Tradition and the Henley / Jubilee (with the Extra Deep Back Option) as these have the largest area for burning solid fuel but most importantly just chose one that fits and one that you like if you need any help choosing a new fireplace just contact us.

Tradition Highlighted now in our fireplace gallery
Monday, June 15th, 2009Cast Fireplaces were contacted by Samantha Clark to help source a cast iron fireplace and granite hearth to fit an existing surround the customer already had.
After confirming what size the existing surround including opening dimensions was and whether it was for gas or solid fuel use, we always ask these questions so we can recommend something that will not only fit but can be used for the purpose intended. After all this was discussed they decided to go with the Tradition Arched Insert in the Highlighted finish complete with a solid fuel kit.
This fireplace is ideal for solid fuel use as you can see in the photo you can got a good sized log on it this was supplied and is now fitted in the customers hallway greeting everyone that visits and as Sam says†most of our visitors comment on how well it goes in the hallâ€
We are always willing to give free helpful advice on all the products we sell and can often suggest products that you might think wouldn’t fit or had not considered. We never lead customers into products you don’t think are right but our good sound advice is often taken and customers are always pleased with the finished result.
So take a look at the photo Sam kindly sent us for our gallery and see what we can do for you.

Harrogate Fireplace Should be every two years
Monday, June 15th, 2009Last week saw the Fireplace show on again at Harrogate with all the usual suspects attending it is getting very similar every time you go. I think it is about time and with the current economic condition that is was postponed for a year and then make it very two years.
This I think would generate more interest in the show and then we would all have more incentive to attend and see what new products are being offered.
Here at Cast Fireplaces we never stop searching for new products to add to our ever expanding range and will be adding a new range of Decorative gas fires and a few more timber mantels we have had made to compliment the range we already offer.
I really do enjoy listing new products and featuring them on our website as its always interesting to see how customers respond to these new items most are warmly received and we take orders from the start others are a little slower and seem to have snowball effect such as our own Pine Corbel Surround designed originally as a budget pine mantel it now is one of our best selling surrounds and continues to be offered on our website 12 years after I first designed it whilst working at Derwentside in Belper.
Coming from a Furniture and Kitchen manufacturing background I can put ideas into a product and working closely with my surround man together we can always manage to make some sort of sample for our customers to view and have even had a few in Limestone and MDF designed to an idea we have, we will have more news on those products when they arrive at our factory from the China Factory.
One of these products you can view is the Ripley Agean Limestone Surround So if you want anything unusual making in timber we can do it and you never know it could become a fireplace other people want too.
How do i seal my Limestone Fireplace
Sunday, June 14th, 2009What do we seal the agean Limestone Surround with is quite a common question we get asked from time to time. We do recommend after fitting your limestone mantel to seal it with a stain stop so it forms a permanent barrier against dirt. Some of the surrounds already come pre-sealed but we always suggest resealing after fitting.
As Limestone is a very porous material after fitting we would normally clean surround down then leave it to dry for a few days until it is completely dry then clean of any dust with clean cloth and then apply a good quality stain stop such as Lithofin Stain Stop Sealer this is ideal for limestone, marble and travertine. This product will soak in to the limestone and will leave a slight sheen to the surface but after it has been applied its ready to be used when dry and a barrier against dirt etc will have been formed it will have soaked into the stone so wont sit on the top like a varnish etc.
This sealer will stop water etc from marking the limestone but be very careful with tea coffee red wine and particular fruit juices or vinegar etc as any spillage if left to sit on the surface still cause unsightly stains its common sense really you wouldn’t spill those on your wooden table and leave it to soak in just mop it all up asap after a spillage.
Stains are hard to remove from limestone as we have said its very porous and just sucks the liquid straight into the stone making it very hard to remove so leaving it untreated is not really an option so please after fitting one of our surround get it sealed at your earliest opportunity.
One word of advice when cleaning in the future is not to use furniture polishes or waxes as these can darken the limestone just use clean cloth with a little water on they dry straight off.

New Solid Oak Cameron Fireplace Mantel
Saturday, June 13th, 2009We have taken delivery today of one of our new ranges of Fireplace Surround and the finished article has arrived this morning. It is called The Cameron Oak Surround and is available in two standard sizes of 48†and 54â€. We also can offer a made to measure service on this surround made to your dimensions and finished in either Light Oak or Dark Oak. If any of you have seen our oak Lincoln and liked it the Cameron is sure to be another good seller as its very similar in design but the Cameron is just like a big Brother it really is chunky. It is handmade from 100% Solid oak and has a 3†thick solid wood shelf making this surround the chunkiest we do. The legs are 7†wide and really match the thickness of the shelf. We are going to list it today as a timber surround on its own and will photograph it with all our numerous arched and tiled inserts in the near future and sell them as packages for gas, electric and solid fuel use. In the meantime if you do want a package price with any of our inserts please don’t hesitate to contact us and we can work the price out for you before they have been listed on our website.
Keep your eye out on our articles section for all new items as we always post little features here before they go on our website for sale.

Have your Chimney Swept Before Fitting Fireplace
Friday, June 12th, 2009Before fitting your fireplace it is important to have your chimney swept first before any installation begins. It is vital you use a professional chimney sweep preferably from the National Association of Chimney Sweeps or NACS for short. Here you can find a local recommended sweep with all the relevant insurance to make sure you get a proper job done.
The reasons for this is that chimneys that have not been used for a while could be blocked with bird’s nests etc (even bees nests as I found in a house I used to live in) or even have loose bricks stopping the fumes escaping properly. This can be potentially dangerous with carbon monoxide or smoke coming back into the room due to the chimney not drawing right.
I know this sounds a little severe but it can happen more often than not though it is just a case off soot build up that needs removing and then they normally smoke test them to make sure they are drawing correctly.
If Problems are then found it’s a simple job of lining the chimney with one of our Chimney Flue Liner Kit these are for use with solid fuel use and we also sell gas liners too if you want a gas insert.
Most of the chimneys we fit fireplaces in are of sound working condition and do not require lining so we always recommend prior to any fitting getting it swept and it will save a lot of mess if you have a soot fall whilst fitting the fireplace.
As the soot is flammable we normally suggest having chimney swept at the end of the “Heating Season†when you don’t intend to light fires on a regular basis this will then ensure the 1st time it drops cold your fireplace is ready to light as nobody wants the fire brigade out to extinguish a chimney fire.
Happy Sweeping and remember a good sweep will never leave you with a mess.
