A customer of ours has contacted us today to ask us some advice on how to repair a very small chip on the edge of the Brompton Agean Limestone Mantel shelf as they had caught it whilst fitting it.
I asked them to send me a photo to see how bad the damage was and when it came through luckily it had the samllest chip along the front edge of the shelf.
I quickly rang them back telling them it could be simply be solved with some sandpaper and to sand the three face edges adding a new flat edge to them with a block of wood.
Ten minutes later Mr R rang back to say how pleased he was with his handiwork and that it even passed the visual inspection from his wife.
I reminded him to reseal the shelf with the lithofin limestones sealer and he proudly told me it had already been done.
So all has ended well and the limestone mantel i presume has been fitted with no further damage and again we have another very happy customer.
So please be careful when fitting your new limestone fireplace as they can be damaged easily and simple repairs are not always possible to make an invisible repair.
We are here to give you free advice and help so contact us any time

How to repair a chip on limestone fireplace shelf
Friday, September 24th, 2010Limestone Fireplaces arrive Tuesday by the lorry load
Monday, August 23rd, 2010As stated before we really are starting to get our stock in for the forthcoming “Heating Season” and tomorrow is the turn for all the Limestone Fireplace Surrounds to arrive to our factory.
These are mainly the new designs and sizes we have on our website and we do have a huge amount more on order.
Im glad they are arriving as we are out of stock of the Brand new 48″ brompton Limestone so these have arrived just in time.
We do have customers waiting to come and view these items and i have just emailed them to tell them the good news they have arrived.
They read about them on our blog coming in and then missed out on the first delivery batch but i must admit we only did have five so she has been waiting till the next lot arrive to view them.
All in all its going to be a busy week with stock arriving from our suppliers and our own timber mantel workshop, Oak Lincolns are due from there this week to replenish our dwindling racks.
Also due in are the Brand New 54″ Corbel Limestone mantels which we have got in stock in 42″ and 48″ sizes so it will be nice to see one of the 54″ versions in the flesh as to speak.
So if you do want a new limestone fireplace head over to Castfireplaces we have more in stock than any other supplier local to us.
Introducing the New 42″ and 48″ Agean Brompton Limestone Mantel
Monday, July 19th, 2010So at last the new brompton mantel arrives in the 42″ and 48″ versions we have been waiting for and im sure you will agree it has well worth been waiting for.
It opens up a whole new option of limestone surrounds that have previously only been available in 48″ versions and larger to customers with smaller chimneys.
So now if you do have a small chimney breast and you want to use a limestone surround we do have an option for you not only in the brompton mantel but also the Ripley and our new plain corbel design.
Im the same at home i have a 48″ pembroke fireplace on my 50″ chimney breast and Rhian already tells me this is being removed and new 48″ Brompton limestone going in its place with the Henley arched insert.
So we do have them in stock ready to go with more arriving shortly and today i will be adding pictures and size options to our website so they will be available to buy from later today.
Im 100% sure these will become a great fast seller of ours and at the price we sell them for they are an absolute bargian.
Just one more thing they are 100% solid agean limestone which is a natural product so rest assured we do not compromise on quality to deliver our outstanding prices.
Take a look at the preview photo below as to what is heading into our front room
Brompton Limestone Fireplace Completes the Job
Monday, June 7th, 2010Here at Cast Fireplaces we do supply individual surrounds in limestone and timber and also Cast iron all these are to be found in our Mantels and Surrounds section where you can choose whichever mantel you require in numerous finishes and sizes.
The reason we sell these seperately is because a few of our customers just decide to change the mantel or have other bits they wish to use.
Today’s little article is exactly what this is about we had a website order a couple of weeks ago for just a 51″ Brompton limestone mantel which was delivered to Benson to a Mrs McCulloch.
When i rang to confirm order she told me she had a granite panel and hearth set from elsewhere and an electric fire and asked if 51″ Brompton would fit.
As she had ordered hearth elsewhere it was a 48″ one which was not 100% right (should have been 51″) but as i explained it will fit on physically but may look a little strange.
Anyway she was happy with this and surround was delivered by me and she was showing me photos on a website with shelves and storage units around it with this limestone fireplace as the centrepiece and this is what she wanted to create.
On delivering she asked me if i knew any fireplace fitters which i do and could i let her have some details, so numbers exchanged i went on my way to next calls and then i have phonecall from Tony thanking me for another job and then email today of fitted fireplace with the following comments
Dear Mark,
“We are thrilled and delighted with the fireplace, Tony fitted it and did a brilliant job.see pix.”
Regards, Emma.
So have a look at the photo i was sent and im looking forward to seeing it with all storage units fitted round it and im gald another customer has found shopping at Castfireplaces a great experience
Can we use Electric Fireplace on Flat Wall
Monday, May 31st, 2010A simple questions was asked today on Bank Holiday monday and yes we are open as to whether a customer can use the Jubilee arched insert with the Brompton Limestone mantel on a flat wall and have the Electric insert thats goes with it.
I was sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the jubilee fireplace requires the wall to have a chamber recess of 6.5″.
This is to accomodate the cast iron back that comes with this fireplace, there is no way round it really, i did suggest building false chimney breast to house the back and she has gone to see her builder to see what can be done.
I know a lot of our customers do like the more tradtional fireplace design but theres not much choice of fuel options for a flat wall as i have said already the cast back does ne to be recessed into the fireplace chamber.
In our Modern Fireplaces section we do have quite a few fireplaces that can be used on flat wall situations and then have an electric fire to suit.
I appreciate the fact it does detract from a more Victorian fireplace look but for people not wishing to construct false chimney breasts it can certainly offer a focal fireplace for your room without the need for building work.
I Know JIG once did a combianation fireplace with electric insert built in to it but to be honest it looked terrible.
So for once we have not been able to offer much of a solution except for the false chimney breast idea so she has gone off to ponder her options, i have this sneaky feeling she will be back as she seems to have set her heart on the Jubilee Brompton Limestone Package
Granite Slips for a Limestone Mantel
Friday, May 21st, 2010Can you supply a set of made to measure granite slips for a limestone mantel you have supplied me was the first question asked me this morning at 8.45 am just before we set off to Blackpool.
The answer of course is yes we can make slip sets to suit and mantel we supply and can also manufacture them to any size.
As the Brompton Limestone Mantel we have supplied has a 3″ rebate they will need to be made in an L Section with the return leg being 75mm to fit flush with his wall.
This is pretty standard and a normal thing to do and if mentioned when ordering they could have arrived with the surround.
It seems recently a few of our customers have been ordering Limestone and Timber mantlels on there own and as we are not always aware how you intend to use them we are going to start asking a few questions when we ring to confirm order to make sure its suitable for what you intend to use it for.
This of course should stop any confusion regarding rebates etc.
We can also offer a set of Agean Limestone Returns which can be gripfilled or marble glued onto existing surround if customers intend to use limestone mantel and do not require granite slips or wish to have matching material.
This basically forms a near invisible rebate which will then fit flush to the wall.
I have done this many times before and will take some photos next time so our customers can see exactly what i mean.
Right off to Blackpool now bags are packed and im just waiting to be picked up.
Can you Alter Brompton Agean Limestone Mantel
Friday, April 16th, 2010We supply the Brompton Agean Limestone Fireplace Mantel from the gallery range in various sizes including a 54″ mantel that has been done by our suppliers in the same material which is agean limestone.
So we already have a better size choice than most other websites and offer these on our website.
Anyway today a customer has asked us whether we can have one custome made to a particular size with a non standard opening.
Now as we do not manufacture the limestone ourselves (unlike timber mantels) there is not much we can do to alter them.
We can reduce shelf widths and reduce header sizes to alter the width of the opening is no problem but to make the opening height smaller is a step too far im afraid for us.
With the range we offer we normally find that something can normally be sorted out but to reduce the height opening to 30″ is something we would not attempt to do.
So after explaining this to the customer how difficult it was they have decided to buy the Brompton Limestone Mantel in a 54″ size and have it altered by a stone mason they know.
I explained it wasn’t that simple but after calling back they said he was more than happy to attempt it for them.
So for the 1st time in a while we have failed to find a solution for the customer but they are sure they can get it done so i really hope it all works out for them and they get exactly what they need
Why do you have so many Wooden Fireplaces
Saturday, March 13th, 2010I took a phonecall at ten past nine this morning asking me why we have so many choices of wooden fireplaces and as the range and options are so big it is really making choosing which one we like best really hard.
I apologised for offering too much choice and she laughed saying its a womans right to be indecisive.
It turns out she had been looking for the past two days and had now narrowed it down to three options for which they were going to have
Jubilee and Oak Brompton
Henley and Oak Stourhead
Coronet and Oak Lincoln
After finding out that the shelf width was going to be a 54″ surround we could then rule out the Coronet and oak lincoln as this is best suited to a 48″ mantel i did mention the crown half polish its big brother to be told the polished band was to wide and was not what she wanted
Now the Henley and the Jubilee are two different inserts one decorative one plain and offer i think different looks and styles so to choose between these two is odd.
Anyway after further questions about wall colours and decor and what type of furniture was in the room a firm decison was suddenly made
Ill have the Jubilee and Oak Stourhead i just laughed out loud it wasnt even an option that had been discussed or considered but now when comparing the two together in side by side screen shots without telling me she had clicked on the Jubilee and Oak Stourhead and was now happy with what she was ordering.
I double checked to make sure she was happy with everything and now was so firm in her mind im not sure why we had been chatting for 22 minutes about fireplace options when all along the perfect answer had been sitting there.
So after one of the most challenging sales for quite a while we now have another happy customer looking forward to her delivery next sunday to Fareham and it just goes to show be patient and listen to what the customer wants and needs and make sure you have the options to offer thats why we really have so many choices in our wooden fireplaces section it makes choosing easy
Tiled Fireplace Collected then Visited Derbyshire
Thursday, March 11th, 2010Im not sure what has been happening over the last couple of days but we have sold 7 tiled fireplace sets and 5 of them have been sold today via sales from our showroom and our website.
We do offer the full range of Tiled Inserts from gallery and they are all on our website but for some reason today it has gone mad on them.
Most have been sold with traditional style surrounds from the Bedford in Pine throught to the Flat Victorian Brompton Limestone.
Only 1 of these inserts was sold on its own and a Mrs Brown from Dalton in Furness who drove down today to view and collect it.
Dalton is a fair way from us but after finding out if we had the Northmoor Black in stock they decided to have an afternoon in the Derbyshire Countryside before heading off home.
As we are close to Matlock Bath and the Gateway to the Peak District quite a few of our customers tie a visit to us with day out some even go to Denby Pottery which is a mile from my house. We have even have customers visit us at Langley Mill and go to Ikea and the DH Lawrence centre at Eastwood which is close to us too.
We are lucky where we are situated with good road links and being in the centre of the Uk we have customers travel from miles to view and Collect our range of Fireplaces and Stoves.
So next time your after a fire why not pick up a map or use your satnav to find some local attraction you can visit whilst out his way and make a full day of it exploring Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire there really is so much to see not just our beautiful Fireplaces
General Fireplace News and Updates
Thursday, February 25th, 2010Well i managed to sort out Mr C’s order for his Black 54″ Palmerston which is now ordered and on its way to us from our fantastic suppliers after yesterdays article about a 12 week wait from another online company.
I have been to said suppliers today to collect a few items that were needed for another rush job for a customer in Solihull im delivering to in the morning after he came to our showroom yesterday he ordered a Jubilee and Brompton and a Hamilton and Brompton package
The Hamilton we didnt have in stock but i collected it today and is being delivered in the morning at 8am so they can start fitting.
We do try our best to work with our customers and if we can get it there in what sometimes is very short notice we will thats one of the reasons why we keep so much in stock we really are a fireplace Cash and Carry.
It now brings me on to website update news which has somewhat stalled the last couple of days as we just seem to have been so busy, i have approved the new dimension layout which we are going to test tomorrow on a few items and see what our customers think before rolling out to all our items and im pleased to say it will have its own tab like we first mentioned and how it was on our old website.
Im really pleased about that and for a while i dint think it would be ok but ive tried a formaty out on the Black Pembroke Fireplace Package and it works perfectly on there so all is good.
So expect this and other new items to be finished by the end of next week when im pretty sure we should have everything done.
