A customer today has rung me today with one of the strangest queries and situations i think i have ever answered.
He originally enquired about the Crown and Oak Lincoln fireplace from our wooden fireplace packages section which was simple enough as he was asking about dimensions and opening sizes etc.
He then told me he was having the inside of his house insulated with a foam which is 110mm thick with a plaster skim on it and would it affect the fitting of the fireplace.
He is using this fireplace for solid fuel use but when i explained that with the brick work to the chimney breast and also the insulation of 110mm im pretty sure there will be not enough depth on the cast back to vent it into his chimney.
We continued to sort out methods of fixing and i cam up with the idea of fitting the cast insert to the wall in the normal way using rope and sealeing it to the wall and then clad arond the sides of the cast with the insulation then we will custom make a mantel with a reverse rebate of 110mm (inside legs longer than outer legs) which will then fit flush with the plaster work and also hold in place the cast insert.
Im pretty sure this will work and he is coming to see me tomorrow afternoon at the factory to discuss that and another fireplace for another room.
So with us being able to custom make another bespoke mantel and a little bit of knowledge gained from numerous years in the Fireplace trade it looks like we could have a solution.
So if he does order ill keep you all posted on how it works out and take photos of what will be a very strange looking mantel untill its fiitted.

This fireplace set has been sold by us for numerous years and always has been a good seller. This month the winner by a whisker is the Black version as shown in the photo below used for solid fuel use, as we have stated before we have seen a return to gas use recently but this month that has gone to pot and 70% were for solid fuel use (that’s what you get for trying to monitor sales trends)
The Crown is a really simple arched fireplace with no decorative detail to it at all and looks perfect with the Victorian styled Brompton Limestone Surround, which always seems to be our best seller.

Crown and Oak Brompton Fireplace Winner
Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009It gives me great pleasure telling you that the Wooden Fireplace of the month goes to The Crown and Oak Brompton Package this is a real bonus for us as we have only added the Solid Oak Brompton about 8 weeks ago and to beat our Oak Lincoln Mantel into second place is no mean feat.
The Crown Packages we have sold have mainly been Half Polished but we have sold 3 in Black but none in Full Polish finish. Most have been for gas use but all the black ones were for solid fuel use. This particular Fireplace has a shelf width of 54†as it’s very tight to use a 48†mantel with the crown however we offer it with a lot of our other arches such as the Lytton, Jubilee and Henley.
The Oak Brompton surround is made form 100% solid oak finished in a natural oiled finish to enhance the beauty of this lovely wood, it is very traditional in style and is modelled on a Flat Victorian Style Surround which we also do in Pine called the Worcester and in Agean Limestone Called the Brompton (hence the name). It is perfect in proportion and has just enough decorative detail with a moulding around the foot and small moulding on the leg section.
Really I shouldn’t be surprised how well this surround has sold over this month as its terrific value for money as it really is Solid Oak. It is available as a package for use with Gas, Electric and solid fuel so I am sure we have the perfect Victorian styled Oak Fireplace for you.

Malton Fireplace Packages are now Online
Monday, May 18th, 2009The Malton Oak Veneered Victorian flat panel style surround has been added to our website today it’s available to buy online now in many different packages for gas or solid fuel use. This Oak Veneered Mantel will quickly become a good seller its made from MDF so its very stable and is designed on the popular Brompton Limestone. It is a great alternative to solid oak as with it being Veneered it really keeps the price down by around £200 at least so people who want the look of oak but without the price are sure to find this mantel a real winner. I personally think this surround looks best with a simple arched insert such as the Crown and Malton it really looks good and makes a perfect gas package with the Half polished cast iron insert.
Tiled Inserts have not been left out of our packages either and we also offer this versatile surround with a choice of tiled fireplaces such as the one shown in the photo below it shows the Toulouse Highlighted insert with the Tulip Burgundy / Ivory tiles I’m sure you will agree it makes a great package for Gas, Electric or even Solid fuel use. Saturday, May 2nd, 2009I can not believe we are already into May i promised myself at the end of the month we would feature the best selling fireplaces in the Limestone, Cast iron, Modern and Wooden range we sell as packages so here is the 1st post of many for his category even if it’s late.
April’s winner was by a long shot and is the Crown and Oak Lincoln Gas Package We sell this fireplace in 3 different finishes and 3 different sizes ranging from 48″ to 54″. The Crown Arched Insert is a simple plain arched fireplace with very little decorative detail making it very popular with customers wanting something not too fussy combined with our Oak Lincoln Mantel it makes a really great looking fireplace set. The Crown is available in Black, Half Polished (polished inner band) or for the true modern look Full Polished (Completely Silver) so this one cast fireplace has many looks.
