Thanks so much for our beautiful fireplace. It arrived exactly when you said it would, between 9:30 and 10am! The service and value we received from you was second to none. The fireplace was cheaper than anywhere else and the mantel on the surround was customised for our smaller width chimney breast at your suggestion. I have never received such wonderful customer service from a company before. We were updated on our order and when we could expect it at all times and we couldn’t be happier. We have your recommended fitter coming to fit the fire on 18th September, and it can’t come soon enough. Thanks to your company we now have the fire we always wanted but didn’t think we’d be able to afford! I have already mentioned your company to a few friends and won’t hesitate to recomme you to more!

How do i measure Made to Size Fireplace Mantel

Ok so you know you need a made to measure fireplace mantel and your not 100 % sure how to find out exactly what size you require lets see if we can help you out a bit so you can then contact our office in confidence
First off you need to measure the chimney breast of where the fireplace is going this is the main factor in the size of your mantel.
Then decide what your using it for is it to go round a fireplace etc or is it it fitting flush to the chimney breast to surround a stove etc.
All these details are important for rebate sizes etc we will work these out for you do not worry about those.
Ok on to the design have a look through any brochure, magazine or website to find the design you like.
We can manufacture any style and design in any wood you choose the choices are endless.
Right dimension time we need to know a few things in relation to what you are after the most important are shown on the diagram below so we can then make sure everything looks right and we also can see if it will work ok.
It is not as daunting as it sounds fireplace mantels are very simple in design basically and have few sections to measure so if you have the dimensions below to hand it makes it very simple to work out.
Most mantels are normally slight variations to stock sizes so have a check through and contact us if you are unsure.

Brompton Limestone Fireplace Completes the Job

Here at Cast Fireplaces we do supply individual surrounds in limestone and timber and also Cast iron all these are to be found in our Mantels and Surrounds section where you can choose whichever mantel you require in numerous finishes and sizes.
The reason we sell these seperately is because a few of our customers just decide to change the mantel or have other bits they wish to use.
Today’s little article is exactly what this is about we had a website order a couple of weeks ago for just a 51″ Brompton limestone mantel which was delivered to Benson to a Mrs McCulloch.
When i rang to confirm order she told me she had a granite panel and hearth set from elsewhere and an electric fire and asked if 51″ Brompton would fit.
As she had ordered hearth elsewhere it was a 48″ one which was not 100% right (should have been 51″) but as i explained it will fit on physically but may look a little strange.
Anyway she was happy with this and surround was delivered by me and she was showing me photos on a website with shelves and storage units around it with this limestone fireplace as the centrepiece and this is what she wanted to create.
On delivering she asked me if i knew any fireplace fitters which i do and could i let her have some details, so numbers exchanged i went on my way to next calls and then i have phonecall from Tony thanking me for another job and then email today of fitted fireplace with the following comments

“We are thrilled and delighted with the fireplace, Tony fitted it and did a brilliant job.see pix.”

Timber made to measure Mantels from Castfireplaces

As a lot of our customers now know after quite a few blogs and it stating it on all our timber mantels we do offer a made to measure bespoke size service on the majority of our fireplace mantels and surrounds.
Ive had an email over the weekend from a man who requires an oak lincoln mantel at a made to measure size but wants me to price match it to something similar he has seen on another website.
How can we price match something that is bespoke and made exactly to your measurements when you are trying to price compare it too a standard off the shelf item.
I tried to explain this to him when i rang him back but as this mantel was smaller than the standard one we keep in stock (which is cheaper than theirs anyway) im sure he didnt grasp that made to measure items are always more expensive.
You can buy a suit from Marks and Sparks off the shelf and you can also have made to measure but a made to measure is never going to be the same or cheaper price.
But your making it anyway he replied why cant you just make it smaller and you save some money on wood and i will get what i want.
After explaining we dont just cut timber for one mantel at a time we always make ten minimum so we just set up the saws and cut a batch out ready and then use our jigs to clamp everyhting perfectly square and drill out all screw holes etc.
I wouldnt have minded if it was just opening size difference but he wants to specify leg width and shelf thickness which is perfectly fine if you wish to pay the extra for it.
Anyway needless to say after trying to explain this which i can clearly say im not sure he understood it he didnt order it he said ill measure up and have a think about it.
So im a little puzzled to say the least im sure im not going mad or is the sun clouding my normal judgement,still it makes me smile and has filled my blog of around 360 words lol

Granite Slips for a Limestone Mantel

Can you supply a set of made to measure granite slips for a limestone mantel you have supplied me was the first question asked me this morning at 8.45 am just before we set off to Blackpool.
The answer of course is yes we can make slip sets to suit and mantel we supply and can also manufacture them to any size.
As the Brompton Limestone Mantel we have supplied has a 3″ rebate they will need to be made in an L Section with the return leg being 75mm to fit flush with his wall.
This is pretty standard and a normal thing to do and if mentioned when ordering they could have arrived with the surround.
It seems recently a few of our customers have been ordering Limestone and Timber mantlels on there own and as we are not always aware how you intend to use them we are going to start asking a few questions when we ring to confirm order to make sure its suitable for what you intend to use it for.
This of course should stop any confusion regarding rebates etc.
We can also offer a set of Agean Limestone Returns which can be gripfilled or marble glued onto existing surround if customers intend to use limestone mantel and do not require granite slips or wish to have matching material.
This basically forms a near invisible rebate which will then fit flush to the wall.
I have done this many times before and will take some photos next time so our customers can see exactly what i mean.
Right off to Blackpool now bags are packed and im just waiting to be picked up.

New Limestone Fireplace Mantel Sizes Approved

Today we have had a good afternoon with our fantastic suppliers sorting out and approving the new sizes for the new range of Limestone Mantels we have now ordered for delivery in around 12 Weeks just in time for the start of Heating Season.
Im not going to go in to too much detail until they arrive as it always nice to keep a few surprises for our competitors as to exactly what we are planning.
I know they read our blog everyday to see what we are up to as they seem to be so short of ideas for themselves you know who you are.
Anyway there are some new mantels and a few alterations to some existing ones and also some size additions to some already popular sellers.
This will then make our range of Limestone Mantels the biggest and most diverse on the market and offer our customers the largest choice in both sizes and style.
There is also a new range of White Marble arriving too but up to now we are going to try them in the Flat Victorian “Brompton Style” mantel and see how they go.
Some of these mantels have been designed to fit with our New Coronet Highlighted Fireplace which has also been ordered and will be with us quite quickly and will feature very heavily on our website and in our showroom.
I am pretty sure this new fireplace is going to be a really big seller so i have ordered plenty of them as with all our items we do like to keep them in stock for collections and quick delivery.
So i will let you know more when i have some images to show you and until then im afraid its a secret.

Carron Fireplace Mantels come into stock

Today i have been nursing a hangover from our bbq yesterday and its not just me everyone who came has awoken this morning with a sore head.
Now the phone in my office is very loud and has made my head pound all day but thats all my own fault.
Anway We have taken delivery from Carron (which used to be called Jig) another load of Oak Surrounds and in this batch are two new ones we are going to add to our range.
Apart from the Large Corbel in both oak and pine the rest of them are manufactured by us so we have complete control of quality and design and also our fantastic bespoke made to measure service.
So these surrounds have been on order for a while and they have arrived today so we shall be doing some new photos and have a few new items on our website shortly.
We are always looking at new products to see if they compliment the range we already do and i do know the Carron range well and their stoves will also be shortly available on our website.
Today along with the surrounds we have taken into stock a few casts from the Carron range we will be stocking to compliment the gallery ones we do so these will have asection all of their own very shortly so keep checking back to see our ever changing range.

Can you Alter Brompton Agean Limestone Mantel

We supply the Brompton Agean Limestone Fireplace Mantel from the gallery range in various sizes including a 54″ mantel that has been done by our suppliers in the same material which is agean limestone.
So we already have a better size choice than most other websites and offer these on our website.
Anyway today a customer has asked us whether we can have one custome made to a particular size with a non standard opening.
Now as we do not manufacture the limestone ourselves (unlike timber mantels) there is not much we can do to alter them.
We can reduce shelf widths and reduce header sizes to alter the width of the opening is no problem but to make the opening height smaller is a step too far im afraid for us.
With the range we offer we normally find that something can normally be sorted out but to reduce the height opening to 30″ is something we would not attempt to do.
So after explaining this to the customer how difficult it was they have decided to buy the Brompton Limestone Mantel in a 54″ size and have it altered by a stone mason they know.
I explained it wasn’t that simple but after calling back they said he was more than happy to attempt it for them.
So for the 1st time in a while we have failed to find a solution for the customer but they are sure they can get it done so i really hope it all works out for them and they get exactly what they need

Space sorted for Fireplaces arriving into stock

As i said last week we have a huge amount of Cast iron fireplaces arriving to us next week and to be honest just in time too as we are out of Pembroke Black Fireplace and only have a few of the other items we stock left.
After such a busy week my job has been made easier in moving things around as alot of the crates we keep this items in are nearly empty which means we can remove them and replace crates with full ones and then just recrate all the oddments together.
So space will be made in the morning for the deliveries arriving Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week.
Im sure John from our suppliers will be sick of the Journey to Langley Mill by the end of the week, but i know he does appreciate our forklift and the amount of work we now do not have to do as anyone in the fireplace trade knows cast iron fireplaces are very heavy items.
We are also expecting a delivery of Jura stone mantels we have on order and i know Daz is busy this week making Oak Lincolns and Bedfords again just in time to replenish stocks to ensure our quick delivery service is kept up and running.
Right off to Stuarts to drop off a late order ive added to his van for a customer tomorrow (sunday) so they now have a stove to go with there Limestone Package and still will only pay 1 delivery charge saving them both money and time.
Thats why we keep so much in stock it makes us better than the rest

Bespoke Oak Fireplace Order is Placed

Around a week ago or perhaps a little longer i told you about a customer who wanted a piece of Oak from an old Bureau incorparating into our Oak Stourhead Mantel which they are having as part of a solid fuel fireplace package with the Henley arched insert.
I must say what a great choice the solid oak stourhead made by us here at Castfireplaces really sells well and is fast becoming a contender to our Oak Lincoln.
Thinking of mantels i really should start informing you of our best selling items again now the new site is up and running.
Anyway this particualr piece of oak is now making its way to us by courier so we can actually set it into the mantel for our customer it will be easier for us to do then him to fix it when mantel is delivered i will take some photos of it being made and of course the finished article so you can see the work we are capable of.
Really nothing is to much trouble for us here.
Anyway enough fireplace talk we have had a new vehicle arrive today and collected it from Audi this morning and for once its not another new Van (god i wished audi made vans nothing comes close)
So My lovely wife and business partner Rhian has a new car to drive round and what a car it is take a look at the photo below i did get my way with the Forest colours but as you can see she has the reg plate.
