Victorian Fireplaces are exactly what they say from the Victorian era from 1837 – 1901 these are the type of Antique Fireplace with the Tiles down the side we think of when looking at the Victorian fireplace era. The Victorians really did master the art of Cast Iron Fabrication and it was used in numerous situations throughout this time period from Washbasin Brackets to ornate Door Knockers and Of course the Victorian Fireplaces
Most Fireplaces from this era came with a surround to cover the fireplace insert these were made from Pine or Oak, which was always painted, not waxed how we have them in today’s fashion style. Also very prominent was the use of Slate and Marble Marble Fireplace Surrounds are replicated within our gallery range of fireplaces to create an original looking fireplace that looks like it has always been there made from Carrara Marble they fit very well with the Larger Chimney Pieces that would grace any large drawing room.
Combination Fireplaces were also found in all bedrooms which had chimney breasts they were designed to be a main heat source for that room and fully functional these can still be used today in homes with working and tested chimneys. These days it is more likely to be of decorative use, which then becomes the main focal point of any bedroom.
Most Victorian and Period Fireplaces were for solid fuel use and our range of fireplaces have been designed to work with Solid Fuel Electric and Gas Use so if you want the look of a real fire without all the mess of solid fuel we have the perfect fireplace for you.
If you require any help choosing the right type of fireplace for the age of your property I would recommend choosing something that appeals to you rather than an exact date match as with all things fashions change and items including fireplaces are removed from the home this is what happened in the 1970s when large numbers of fireplaces were removed form old houses and replaced with the then Modern 3 bar Gas Fires These are again now being removed and more traditional and modern fireplaces being installed in there place so it’s a choice of something you really like that suits your purposes.
We now Supply a large range of Limestone Fireplaces which although limestone is a modern product for fireplace looks also looks very traditional when used with and arched or tiled fireplace so just because you own an old home doesn’t mean you have to own an old fireplace. All packages can be mixed and matched to suit your needs.
