Fireplace Hearth Materials
There is a huge range of different materials to choose from when buying a hearth, however there are a few important points to consider: Firstly, it is important that you consider which materials are compatible with your fuel choice. Real fires (solid fuel) tend to emit more heat, thus we recommend that you choose a granite or tiled hearth as there’s considerably less chance of them cracking. In the case of gas or electric fireplaces there are more options including softer materials such as slate or limestone.
The second point to consider is how you want the hearth to look. Even if some types of materials, particularly stones look similar, there are very subtle differences and contrasting 2 against each other can look strange. It is also important that you consider how the hearth will match with the colour scheme of the room and the statement that your fireplace is making. A tiled or slate hearth will create a traditional look, whilst a brick or stone hearth will instantly add a beautiful rustic, farmhouse ambience to the room. A marble, limestone or granite hearth will create a timeless, classic look and feel.
