So how to clean a limestone fireplace is a topic we have covered before, but over the last few days we have had 2 different people ask about the best way to clean a limestone fireplace.
One answer was very simple and was how to remove dirt from the limestone before sealing. After installation, they wiped it down but had a few stubborn dirt marks which were simply sanded off, then the limestone mantel was sealed to keep it looking good.
The second customer was not so lucky. The limestone had not been sealed and, being a very porous stone, the stain which was coffee, in this case, had been sucked into the limestone hearth.
This, I’m afraid, will be very difficult to remove, and we have suggested trying out Lithofin Power Cleaner, which in the past has helped other customers with removing marks.
So, for day-to-day cleaning, just keep it clean and dry and, if marks do appear, use a clean damp cloth to work away in circular motions. This should remove most stains.
Anything more stubborn than this uses our power to clean it does work, but I can’t guarantee it will remove all marks. It’s something you would just have to try.
Rule number one… SEAL YOUR LIMESTONE AFTER FITTING TO AVOID ANY PROBLEMS
