Wooden Fire Surrounds

Nothing stands the test of time better than a wooden fire surround. It simply never dates, and we have been selling many of the same designs for over 30 years.

Our wood fire surrounds are handmade and hand-finished using solid pine and solid oak, not MDF. This gives you a proper timber mantel with natural grain, strength and character.

We use quality waxes and oils to create our traditional patina, a finish we are well known for here at Cast Fireplaces. We also supply unfinished, ready-for-painting wooden mantels if you want to choose your own finish.

Solid Wood Fire Surrounds for Traditional and Modern Homes

Wooden fire surrounds work well in both period properties and modern homes. They add warmth, character and a proper focal point to the room.

Our wood surrounds can be used with cast iron inserts, suitable electric fires, fireplace openings and stove installations, depending on the setup.

A wooden mantel is also a cost-effective way to finish a fireplace while keeping the look simple and traditional.

Solid Oak and Pine Fireplace Surrounds

Our surrounds are available in solid oak and pine.

An oak surround is strong, durable and has a natural grain, making it a good choice if you want a long-lasting surround with a traditional feel.

Pine is a popular option if you want a solid timber mantel that can be painted, waxed or finished to suit your room.

As both oak and pine are natural woods, the grain, colour and markings can vary. This is part of the character of a solid wood fireplace surround.

Made-to-Measure Wooden Fire Surrounds

Our most popular designs are available in standard sizes, but we also offer a made-to-measure service.

This is useful if you need a bespoke fireplace surround for a non-standard chimney breast, fireplace opening or room layout. A custom fireplace mantel can be made to suit the size you need.

Send us the dimensions you need and we can advise from there.

Choosing the Right Wooden Fireplace Surround

When choosing a fire surround, start with the size of your room and chimney breast. Larger rooms can usually take a wider or more detailed surround, while smaller rooms often suit a simpler timber mantel.

You should also check your fireplace opening measurements, including the width, height and depth.

For stove installations, always check the required clearances and make sure the wooden surround is suitable for the way it is being fitted.

You can always call into our showroom and see what styles we have on display.

Frequently Asked Questions

We have concealed fixing brackets you can order with the surround. They offer a simple hidden solution for attaching to the wall.

Designed primarily to be used with fireplace cast inserts or slip sets, the mantels have an adjustable rebate of 1” or 3”If you remove the inner strip.

For customers requiring no rebate, add a note to the order form, and we can get one done for you at no extra cost.

During busy winter months, we do try to work to a 2-week manufacturing time so allow 3 weeks including delivery if ordering made-to-measure items.
