Inset Electric Fires

Electric Fires for Existing and New Fireplaces

An inset electric fire can be one of the simplest ways to update an existing fireplace. If you already have a suitable opening, replacing an older electric fire with a newer inset model can completely change the appearance of the fireplace without necessarily replacing the surround or carrying out major building work.
Our inset electric fires are from Solution, with different sizes, fascias and fuel-bed effects available for both traditional and contemporary fireplace designs.

Replacing an Existing Electric Fire

If you’re replacing an existing fire, the first thing to check is the opening. Not every inset fire will fit every fireplace, so we’d recommend measuring the width, height and depth before ordering.
It also helps to look at the overall fireplace rather than simply finding a fire that physically fits. The fascia, fuel bed and proportions of the fire can make a big difference to how the finished fireplace looks

If you’re unsure, send us a photograph of the fireplace and the opening measurements and we can help you compare suitable options.

Traditional or Contemporary?

One of the advantages of an inset electric fire is how much the appearance can change depending on the fascia and surrounding fireplace.
A cast-iron frame or traditional fret can work particularly well with an older-style mantel or cast fireplace, while a simpler black or contemporary fascia can give the same type of fire a much cleaner appearance. The fuel bed makes a difference too. Depending on the model and configuration, you can choose between effects such as logs or coal to suit the fireplace you’re creating

Choosing the Right Inset Fire

Before choosing an inset electric fire, it helps to know:

  • The width of the fireplace opening
  • The height of the opening
  • The available depth
  • The size and style of the existing fireplace
  • Whether you prefer a log or coal effect
  • The type of fascia or frame you prefer

If you’re replacing an older electric fire, bring us the details of the existing model if you still have them. A photograph of the fireplace is useful too, particularly if you’re unsure whether a traditional or contemporary fascia will suit it best.

See Our Inset Electric Fires Running

We have several Solution inset fires running on display at Cast Fireplaces, shown in different fireplace styles rather than all presented in the same setting. One of the most traditional examples is our SLE35i fitted into a fully polished Pembroke cast fireplace.
We also display an SLE40 with a Provident cast-iron frame and log effect, showing another way an inset electric fire can work within a traditional fireplace.

For a more contemporary look, we have an SLE43iXD with a black contemporary fascia.
Seeing the fires running in different settings makes it much easier to compare the fascia, flame, fuel bed and overall appearance.
If you’re not sure which inset fire will work with your fireplace, send us a photograph and the width, height and depth of the opening, or come and see the displays at Cast Fireplaces.
