On 11 August 2025, we sold our last Tiger stove. It was our ex-display Tiger Eco model, bringing to an end a range that had been part of Cast Fireplaces for more than 20 years. The Tiger has always meant a little more to us because it was the first stove we sold when we started Cast Fireplaces back in 2003.
And, 21 years later, one of those very early Tigers unexpectedly came back into our lives.
Back in December 2003, we sold a Tiger stove to a local couple. Then, 21 years later, my son was visiting his girlfriend’s grandma when he rang me and asked if we could help with her stove door. The bolts had rusted away, so he sent me some photos. I said we could either repair the door for the coming winter or order a replacement. We repaired the door and fitted new glass.
While we were talking about the stove, she mentioned that she had originally collected it from a farm in Heage. I knew straight away where it had come from.
My son sent me a copy of her original invoice and, sure enough, it was one of our very early Cast Fireplaces sales from December 2003. I hadn’t seen an invoice that old for years.
That Tiger had been in their home for more than 20 years and was still going. Eventually, the stove came back to us and it now sits in our Heanor showroom with its original invoice and paperwork.
I was telling Tony at our suppliers the story about the old Tiger when he arranged something we weren’t expecting. He managed to get us a brand-new Old Tiger Classic from the foundry.
So we now have two Tigers sitting together in the showroom.
One is the old stove we sold right back at the beginning of Cast Fireplaces, after more than 20 years of use. The other is a brand-new one from the end of the range.
Neither is for sale. We’d rather keep them together.
When we started Cast Fireplaces in 2003, we obviously had no idea that more than 20 years later we’d still be here talking about one of the first stoves we sold. The Tiger has been part of the business almost from the beginning, so selling the final one did feel like the end of an era for us. But the nice part is that the story has come full circle.
The old Tiger is back with us. And sitting next to it is a brand-new one from the end of the range. They’re both staying in the showroom..
